Dr. Ronak Patel Delivers Three Invited Talks at National AOSSM Meeting

Posted on: July 26th, 2025 by Our Team

At the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), held in Nashville, Dr. Ronak M. Patel, a nationally recognized expert in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, was invited to deliver three distinguished presentations. His talks focused on cutting-edge strategies in knee preservation and reconstruction, highlighting his commitment to advancing care for active individuals of all ages through minimally invasive, biologic, and innovative surgical approaches.

Dr. Patel’s participation in the meeting reflected his deep involvement in orthopedic research and education, particularly in the realm of complex knee surgery. Each session offered practical insights and clinical guidance for fellow surgeons seeking to improve patient outcomes and long-term joint function.

Advanced techniques in meniscal repair

In one of his primary presentations, Dr. Patel explored the latest techniques in meniscal preservation, with particular emphasis on the management of radial and root tears, which are often challenging and associated with poorer healing potential if not addressed properly. He discussed advanced surgical planning, appropriate device selection, and meticulous technique as critical elements for success. His presentation underscored the importance of meniscal preservation in maintaining knee stability and delaying the onset of osteoarthritis, especially in athletic and high-demand patients. Dr. Patel also shared clinical pearls from his experience that help optimize outcomes while minimizing complications.

Cartiheal Agili-C: a novel cartilage repair option

In a session devoted to cartilage restoration, Dr. Patel introduced the Cartiheal Agili-C implant, a new, FDA-approved, cell-free scaffold designed for the repair of focal cartilage and osteochondral lesions, even in patients with early-stage osteoarthritis. This single-stage procedure represents a significant step forward in cartilage surgery, offering a less invasive and more accessible solution compared to traditional techniques that often require multiple surgeries or biologic cell processing. Dr. Patel discussed the growing body of evidence supporting Agili-C and shared real-world data from his clinical practice. His insights emphasized how this treatment helps close a long-standing gap for patients who may not qualify for traditional cartilage repair or joint replacement procedures.

Patellar tendon imbrication for pediatric instability

During the “Are You Kidding Me?!” session focused on pediatric orthopedics, Dr. Patel presented a safe and innovative technique for treating patella alta in skeletally immature patients with instability. His approach, known as patellar tendon imbrication, involves only soft-tissue modification, thereby avoiding the need for bony procedures like tibial tubercle osteotomy, which can pose a risk to developing growth plates. Dr. Patel’s technique enables earlier return to sports and reduces the risk of long-term complications, providing a promising surgical option for young athletes affected by recurrent patellar dislocations or abnormal patellar height.

These presentations highlight Dr. Patel’s leadership in sports medicine and his dedication to developing safer, more effective solutions for patients at every stage of life. His work continues to influence orthopedic practice across the country and shape the next generation of treatments in joint preservation and repair.
